On June 7th the Elgin District will be celebrating the ministry of our District Superintendent, Rev. Oscar Carrasco at First United Methodist Lake (236 W. Crystal Lake Avenue in Crystal Lake) as he retires.  The celebration begins at 3:00pm and goes until 6:00pm. There will be two parts: a more formal recognition, and an informal time following.  In the formal celebration we will be presenting Oscar with a book of remembrances from individuals in the district.  In addition, there will be a love offering gift to his mother’s church in Chile.  (below you will find information about the church) The remembrances are words of gratitude for Oscar’s ministry; Love offerings (totally voluntary) coming from individuals or congregations.

The written remembrances can be sent to Rev. Darneather Murph-Heath (our new District Superintendent beginning July 1st) at Our Saviour’s UMC, 701 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg IL 60194-3507 or sent via email to: pastorheath.osumc@sbcglobal.net

Love offering checks may be sent to First United Methodist Church, 123 N. Plum Grove Rd, Palatine IL 60067-5230. Please be sure to put a note in the memo section of the check indicating that it is for Oscar’s gift.  The Palatine church will then make out a check to the church in Chile, and it will be presented to Oscar on June 7th.

Sara Cruz Montero vda. de Carrasco (Oscar’s mother) celebrated her 100th birthday on May 3, 2014. . She was recognized on March 12, 2014, the anniversary of the city, by the Mayor of Curacautin for her devotion to her church, her family and her community. The Methodist Church of Curacautin has dedicated the new addition, although incomplete, to Sara Cruz Montero vda. de Carrasco. On the occasion of the retirement of Rev. Oscar N. Carrasco, he requests that any monies collected as a love gift be designated to the Iglesia Metodista de Curacautin for the completion of this small hall dedicated to honor his mother. The room, walls and partitions are in place but there is much yet to be done.
