Just Imagine…Your Time and Your Money Could Eliminate Malaria  Yes, we need your help.  We still need a few more workers to help clear tables, to deliver food, and greet people on July 27 (4 – 6 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m.) at the Imagine No Malaria fundraiser at Culver’s located at 13240 Route 47, Huntley (north of tollway ). We need you to actually purchase food, even if it’s a small treat. We need you to invite your friends because our church will receive between 5 % and 20 % of the sales received between 4 and 8 p.m. We need you to take home some frozen custard for your freezer, but be sure to purchase it between 4 and 8 p.m. on July 27.

Yes, this is a fiscally sound charity.  Charity Navigators gives the United Methodist Committee on Relief four stars – the highest they award.  The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) avoids duplicating the efforts of others. In fact global leaders such as The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the United Nations Foundation partner with the United Methodist Church. The Methodists have been in Africa for over 200 years. “We serve where no one else exists. Where there are not any non-government organizations, there’s no United Nations—deep, deep off the paved road – you’ll have a church and/or a church clinic,” stated Shannon Trilli, Director of Health Initiative, United Methodist Committee on Relief.”

Yes, malaria is a real, global problem, but it is a solvable one.  Even though the developed world conquered malaria in the 1950’s, there are still over three billion people who are at risk of infection. Malaria claims over 600,000 lives each year.   It is, though preventable, treatable and beatable. Our own Northern Illinois Conference is trying to raise enough money by December, 2016 to save 10,000 lives. CUMC wants to raise $7,500 by this time to save 75 lives.

Please answer “Yes, I will do my part in supporting this.”  Help by volunteering to work, by actually making a purchase, by encouraging your friends to stop by Culver’s, and by spreading the news (see your bulletin on Sunday for a handout to share with your friends; Maylo Hranac will have extra copies)
