Come and listen to a delightful concert of adult and children voices as the Voices in Harmony and the Encore! Youth Choirs combine their beautiful singing talents together at the Raue Center for the Arts. And come and support our very own Michele Linner, a member of the Voices in Harmony community choir. Peace & Light, our 2015-2016 concert season, is intended to bring concerts that edify and give a bright vision for our future.
We are excited to bring together the voices of youth and experience in a musical collaboration between VIH and Encore Youth Choirs (EYC), directed by Ann Tucker and Kimberly Scherrer. The bright, clear young voices contrasted with the mature, full expressiveness of “experienced” voices will make for a rich and varied musical event.
Encore Youth Choirs have four levels: Aria (grades 2-4), Bella Voce (grades 5-6), Cantabile (grades 6-8) and Di Canto (high school). Aria and Bella Voce will sing together with Cantabile, and Cantabile and Di Canto will each sing their own pieces. Di Canto will sing two pieces with VIH and VIH will sing four works. All the choirs will join to present three pieces.
The concert features some great choral classics such as Randall Thompson’s powerful Alleluia and Mozart’s serene Ave Verum Corpus. There will be folk song settings, music from Africa and Canada, a song by Dolly Parton, and a beautiful setting of the contemporary ballad You Raise Me Up.
EYC members will hear and see that singing is a life-long activity demonstrated by people who make time in their lives for music. VIH members will be inspired about the future of the positive influence of music on our community. Together, EYC and VIH will bridge the generations joining their voices in expressions of peace and light.
