A group of clergy & youth ministers from congregations in the Chicago Northwestern and Elgin Districts have developed an afternoon experience for youth – middle & high school – to explore refugee ministries and specifically the Syrian refugee crisis. Our original plan for the event was to promote it within the sponsoring congregations but with the last meeting of the planning team on Monday, Feb. 1, a more general invitation is now being distributed. The event is Sunday, Feb. 14, 5 – 8:30 p.m. at the Kingswood United Methodist Church, 401 W. Dundee Road in Buffalo Grove. Congregations sponsoring the event include: Christ UMC/Deerfield, Grace UMC/Lake Bluff, Irving Park UMC/Chicago, Northbrook UMC, First UMC/Park Ridge, Glenview UMC and Kingswood UMC/Buffalo Grove. The concert at 7 p.m. is open to the general public at $10/ticket. The concert features a group with members who are refugees themselves; songs written and performed from the Syrian refugee experience with Q and A to follow.
