This Sunday, we’ll be remembering those in our community who are in need of food. For every one of us in church this coming Sunday, there will be at least eight children who benefit from our gifts this month. In a typical month the Food Pantry serves 50 seniors, over 400 children, and 300 households. “A Place at the Table” needs to be more than rhetoric. We need to work at being inclusive. We can help more people feel included by wisely choosing nutritious food and donating it. We can help by donating cash in a special container after worship. Checks can be made payable to Christ United Methodist Church, but should include “A-LITH Food Pantry” on the memo line. We can clip food coupons and leave them on the piano in the kitchen, and one of our super‑shoppers will turn those coupons into free or nearly‑free food.
If you’re planning to purchase food please consider selecting one or more of the most needed food items: tomato products (paste, spaghetti sauce, diced), boxed pasta, tuna, pancake mix and syrup, canned fruit (mixed fruit and pineapple are in high demand), peanut butter, macaroni and cheese. If you’re shopping in your own pantry, please check the expiration date and use the expanded list of items the Food Pantry distributes.
If you’re planning to give cash or a check rejoice in fact that the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Food Pantry is able to purchase some (not all but selected foods) for considerably less than a typical consumer. All donations are tax deductible. Submitted by your Mission Team
