Bishop Sally Dyck and the Council of Bishops call for prayers following the horrific shooting on June 12 in Orlando, Florida that took the lives of 49 individuals and wounded 53 others.
Bishop Dyck issued the following statement:
“Shock, fear and sadness have gripped us all since the mass shooting in Orlando last Sunday. We grieve with those who lost loved ones and with the LGBTQ and Hispanic/Latino communities who were targeted. We live in a political environment filled with hate speech, and with religious institutions, including our own, that have unaccepting and uncaring statements about LGBTQ persons, and a Congress that refuses to at least place restrictions on assault weapons. Let us pray and work for justice, love and peace…and let it begin with each one of us.”
