Please mark your calendars for September 25 when our Reconciling Ministries Task Force welcomes a special speaker during our Sunday morning worship. Don Pierson is a retired Chicago Tribune sportswriter. His resume includes a year as president of The Professional Football Writers of America (1994) and induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame writers’ wing. He also coauthored Mike Ditka’s autobiography. None of that is particularly germane to his visit, except to say he is an exciting and articulate fellow. Mostly, he will share with us his experience in helping Lake Bluff UMC declare its status as a Reconciling Congregation and publicize an inclusive mission statement. As the service ends there will be a non-binding referendum on a proposed CUMC mission statement. We will all be asked to confidentially submit our feedback. Don will also meet briefly with our Reconciling Ministries Task Force.
