Maya Angelou, a poet and important figure in the American Civil Rights Movement once said, “Ask for what you want and be prepared to get it.” This statement led me to a series of questions, including: What do I want? Am I preparing to get it?

I deeply appreciate the fact that Gary Slagle, along with the other leaders of CUMC for this year have set a goal of “Each One, Reach One” for this year, 2012. While “Each One, Reach One” is a goal for outreach, we don’t have to limit this just to an individual setting, in only inviting someone to Jesus Christ. As a group, we can set a goal that might otherwise be difficult to achieve working alone, as individuals. For any group to prepare to work toward a goal, I’d like to share what I have learned from the Leadership Training Course of Stephen Ministry. And that is the acronym: PREPARE.

be_prepared

  • P: Profile – the big picture
  • R: Resources – the tools at your disposal
  • E: Explore – What is current reality?
  • P: Possibilities – What might we do?
  • A: Action – What will we do?
  • R: Review
  • E: Evaluation – How did we do?

And so, as we remember to PREPARE, reaching our goal will become clearer and closer to our reality
