Your Mission Team at CUMC appreciates your support and your generosity. Last year, you shared your love by your donations of time, money, and purchased items (food, warm clothing and school supplies). Indeed, you were The Unknown Valentine for individuals in this community. Last year through your generous donations, Christ United Methodist Church gave donations to these local missions:
- McHenry County Veterans’ Food Pantry: $160 cash, food valued at $100
- Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Food Pantry: $384.97 cash, 1283.5 pounds of food valued at $2166.76
- Warm Ministry donations to PADS: $290 in cash, and items: hats, gloves, etc. donation value $239
- Home of the Sparrow (The Holiday Giving Tree Gift Program) $1051
- TLS Veterans (homeless veterans in Hebron, IL) $1113.25
- CROP Walk: $1798.75
- School Supplies for students at Perry School: 784 items (cash value not determined).
We are not sure what the value of the school supplies were, but we assume that the average cost may be between 50 cents and a dollar. This means that this congregation donated money or items worth $7715 – $ 8109 to local missions in our community.
In addition to local missions, the congregation participated in four projects helping others in other localities. The CUMC church family gave $1620.98 in 2016 to Imagine No Malaria, which made our total giving $6609.57 during the three-year campaign. In 2016 the Bishop’s Appeal was for the new Chicago (Lakeview) building for Rosecrance, a northern Illinois agency dedicated to assisting individuals with mental health and substance abuse issues. This congregation gave $185.00.
You also gave 72 boxes of crayons and several dozen individual pencil sharpeners for the school supply kits. These were delivered by Peggy Literski to the Annual Conference. From there the school supplies traveled to the Midwest Mission Center, a branch of UMCOR, which is located in Chatham, Illinois (near Springfield).
Thanks to the efforts of over 30 individuals during one Saturday in August, 20,529 meals were packed for children in other countries. Feed My Starving Children distributes these meals which are reinforced with needed vitamins and minerals.
We appreciate your generosity. As Christians we are called to serve others. As members of the CUMC Mission Team we appreciate your donations of time, your donations of money, your prayers, and your encouragement. As one song says “They will know we are Christians by our love.” The CUMC Mission Team thanks you on behalf of those you have served.
The CUMC Mission Team invites you to our next meeting, which will be on February 19 after worship service. We encourage you to attend. You can come to observe, you can come to ask questions, or you can come and join our team.
