This Sunday, March 19th we will be exploring the parables of the “lost.” We’ve heard the story of the lost sheep, the widow’s lost coin, and the lost son (prodigal son). Where are we in these stories? What is their relationship to 2017? How are they related to the issues of McHenry County Veterans?
Plan to spend two hours with us this Sunday evening. We will begin with a light pasta supper at 5:00, followed by a presentation about 5:45. A speaker from the TLS (Transforming Lives through Service to Veterans) located in McHenry, Illinois will be present. Church doors open at 4:30 for those who need to warm food or arrange food. Our meal starts at 5:00. We hope you are able to be present for the supper and the program, but if you can only be present for the meal or for the presentation, know you are welcome to attend just part of the evening.
This agency has four core services. Veterans living in McHenry County are offered housing assistance, employment assistance, veteran peer support and transitional living. The main office is located in the town of McHenry. The transitional living program is in a “transformed” motel, located in Hebron, Illinois. The agency started in 1996, and CUMC members have been donating to this agency for several years.
Last year congregation members donated $160 in cash and checks and $100 of food in April. In addition, the offering on Christmas Eve was given to the group. The offering for homeless vets living in Hebron totaled $1051. This year we are also collecting food pantry items in April for TLS.
This is the third in our series. We would like you to attend all five, but these presentations are “stand-alone” presentations. If this is the only one you can attend, don’t worry. You don’t need to have attended the first and second talk to understand this presentation.
