Will you have a special Easter dinner this year?   Will you be celebrating with your family and/or friends?   If you are the “designated grocery shopper” in your household, will you select a few non-perishable food items for the McHenry County veterans?   During the month of April all food pantry donations are given to the McHenry County TLS organization.  This organization has two sites: there is a “rehabbed motel” in Hebron that provides shelter and there is a drop-in center in the city of McHenry.   Both locations serve veterans.

Our church collects non-perishable food during the month of April.   The PADS sites close at the end of April.   When you are homeless, May is a very uneasy month. On May first the homeless not only lose shelter, but they also lose an evening meal, a breakfast and a sandwich lunch.   This is particularly difficult for individuals who deal with trauma.   Our PADS speaker during the Lenten supper speaker series mentioned that the month of April is particularly difficult because the people who use PADS services know that they will be on their own for meals beginning in May.

The Lenten speaker from TLS mentioned that the food category they always need are protein foods.  If you are looking for items for the veterans using TLS services, then select canned meats such as sardines, tuna, chicken, beef, and containers of canned fruits or vegetables.

We accept food donations through-out the month, but we make a special effort the last Sunday of the month.   The April collection each year is given to TLS  (which stands for Transitional Living Services and Transforming Lives through Service to Veterans).   Tom and Tobey Sroga chair this drive.
