Tom and Tobey Sroga were greeted with hugs, smiles and countless thanks when they delivered your food and monetary donations last week to the McHenry County veterans.  The Mission Team appreciates the tremendous support for this project.   There were many bags of groceries, valued at $1000.   And, we also had a check of $320, which came from individual check and cash donations.   The Mission Team suggested in early April that you estimate the cost of your own Easter meal and try to spend that much for the veterans.    We suggested that you consider a food donation to be a way of “inviting Christ to be part of your Easter celebration.”
Well, many, many of you did just that.   Some months our average weekly attendance is 65…and that $1320 translates as $20 per person, average attendance.   The Mission Team appreciates your generosity, and Tom and Tobey reported that the veterans were elated!
The beginning of May is “high anxiety” among homeless people.   During the months of November through April, there are open PADS sites, but they close for the warmer months.   The beginning of May means that the homeless will need to sleep outside.   And, to make matters worse, the supper, breakfast and paper-bag lunch which PADS sites serve, end.  Wild berries haven’t developed; there’s no fresh produce at food pantries—May can be a tough month.    Thanks for helping make it a little easier for the McHenry County Veterans.
