a message from State Senator Karen McConnaughay,  33rd District (7/14/17)

As many of you know, this past week has been overwhelming for the 33rd district due to vast flooding throughout our region. Algonquin has already called for a state of emergency, and Kane County recently issued a disaster declaration.

For those of you who remember the severe flooding we saw in 2013 and 2008, this is a comparable situation and unfortunately the flooding is expected to get worse before it gets better. Kane County Office of Emergency Management Director Don Bryant has indicated that throughout the weekend the Fox River in northern Kane County is anticipated to reach flood level.

Don Bryant advises people that live along Fox River move valuables to higher levels to keep from being tarnished. However, your safety is the top priority. If you live or are traveling in an area where flood waters are rising, please carefully monitor your surroundings and take every safety precaution.

The Office of Emergency Management has distributed sandbags to impacted residents in northern Kane County to help prevent further flooding damage. If you have not received any sandbags and would like some, they are available at the Highway Department at 41 West 011 Burlington Road in Campton Hills, Illinois.

You can stay updated by accessing helpful information and updates at your local muncipality’s website. As always, if I can help in any way, or you have concerns, please feel free to contact me at senator@karenmcconnaughay.com. Please stay safe this weekend!
