As we begin our 40 days of spiritual preparation, the Bishops of The United Methodist Church are calling on members of the denomination to deny themselves during the 2018 Lenten Season for the sake of the kingdom of Jesus Christ and to set aside self-interest so that others may have a more abundant life. Click here to read the full messageOn Ash Wednesday, which uniquely fell also on Valentine’s Day this year, Bishop Sally Dyck took part in the imposition of ashes at the First United Methodist Church at the Chicago Temple. She reflected afterwards, “Happy Valentine’s Day and may you have a Lenten season filled with love! I believe the celebration of love for our neighbor as well as those with whom we share our lives is really the spirit of Lent! Whether you give up chocolate (or fill in the blank of your favorite food) or don’t, show a little love to those around you today and throughout the Lenten season!”
