April 3-5, 2018, the Northern Illinois Conference along with our Pan-Methodist partners are joining the Illinois Conference of Churches (ICC) to attend the A.C.T. Unite to End Racism historic event and rally in Washington D.C., coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Several events are scheduled April 3-5 in Washington, D.C., including a United Methodist Prayer Witness on the steps of the UM Building on Capitol Hill, a worship service at St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral on April 3, an interfaith service at the Lincoln Memorial the morning of April 4, a massive rally on the National Mall later in the day, and a day of advocacy on Capitol Hill April 5.
A Pan-Methodist charter bus (UMC, AME, AMEZ, CME, African Union Methodist Protestant and Union American Methodist Episcopal Churches) will leave from La Grange, IL on April 3 and return April 5 with no overnight stop. A seat on the bus costs $175 and includes a sack lunch, water, and a t-shirt to be worn at all times on the mall so the group can recognize each other. Download the flyer for more information. To register for the bus trip click here and choose “Special Pan-Methodist bus gathering in Suburban Chicago.” Registration will close March 20.
