Sometimes I’ve found myself overwhelmed by all I believe I need to do, especially when I try to focus on lots of different things at the same time. Although I don’t always follow my mother’s advice, I know it still works: When I was in high school she taught me to make lists and then prioritize. I think there’s a parallel when we look at human need. If we try to help everyone we become mentally exhausted and we probably help very few. This is one of the reasons the Church Mission Team focuses on one major issue each month.
During April we are focusing on helping the veterans who participate in the TLS Veterans (Transitional Living Services), a recognized charity of McHenry County. We are collecting needed food items and selected toiletries for their clients. We will be distributing a list on Sundays. If you would rather donate money instead or in addition, you should make your check payable to Christ United Methodist Church. Write “TLS-Veterans” on the memo line of your check.
April is also the month for one of our Culver’s fundraisers. During the hours of 4-8 pm on our designated day, we will receive 10% or more of all the proceeds. The percentage we receive will be based on the receipts during those times. You can dine in or carry-out. We will also need volunteers to “work” that night. We especially need people to deliver food to those who eat in the restaurant and then clear the tables. We have two shifts for this. If you are able, please help us by volunteering one of these shifts. Mark your calendars for Monday, April 23. Tell your neighbors. This Culver’s event is at the Huntley Culver’s located on Randall Road.
This is one of our fundraisers. The proceeds from our fundraisers are distributed to local charities at the end of the year.
