This Sunday will complete our June food drive for the Algonquin Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food PantryNon-perishable food is collected each month in the area to the right of the sanctuary doors.  This month we’re suggesting that you remember children who qualify for a free or reduced-cost lunch at school.  Families with limited resources really struggle to feed their children when summer arrives and there’s no school lunch.  Older citizens have difficulty too, because warm temperatures make food preparation difficult.  Consider purchasing items that have high nutrition and little or no cooking.
If you’d rather donate money, that’s great.  On the last Sunday of the month a member of the Mission Team stands at the door and collects cash or checks from those who wish to contribute.  Some people find it more convenient to give money than food.  The food pantry is able to use your contributions and purchase certain foods at a tremendous discount.  A gift of $2.00 allows the local food pantry to purchase 8 boxes of name-brand cereal.  Food pantries are able to purchase certain food from the Northern Illinois Food Bank at extremely low cost.  (And, no you cannot personally shop there: the Northern Illinois Food Bank does not sell food to regular consumers.)  If you choose to write a check, make it payable to Christ United Methodist Church.   On the “Memo Line” write “ALG-LITH Food Pantry”.
