“Sermon on a Mount”
Pastor Ron delivers a “Sermon on a Mount” outdoors at Christ UM Church at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, August 26. The public is invited to this service celebrating the history of horseback preachers, particularly the Methodist Circuit Riders, who brought Christianity to the settlers of America’s frontier. The message will focus on “making peace with the diversity of God’s world, in society and in nature.” A picnic and games follow the service. All are invited to these also.
“I have done this dramatic recreation at many churches over my four decades in ministry,” said Pastor Ron, a former stage actor, “and I’m excited to take one last ride before retiring at the end of this year. It’s been an exceptional blessing this time to discover Woodstock Equestrian (13401 IL-176 just west of 47) and to meet their owner, Jennifer Seeger. They’ve been exceptionally helpful to provide just the right horse for such a specialized event as this. They’re a wonderful family-oriented place, with instructions for ages 5-adult. So, I’m hoping church groups will continue to take advantage of their services.”
