(from the NIC e-News 12/6/18) This week the nation mourned the death of George H.W. Bush, the nation’s 41st president, who died Nov. 30. The Council of Bishops of The United Methodist Church shared their condolences in a letter to his son, 43rd President George W. Bush, and his wife, Laura, who are United Methodists.
“We join you in giving thanks for the lives and legacies of your father and also your mother, the former First Lady Barbara Bush. We rejoice in the light that flowed from their lives into the life of this nation. We are grateful for their strength, dignity, humility, civility, service and sacrifice,” wrote Bishop Kenneth Carter, President of the Council of Bishops.
