Position Announcement – January 14, 2013: Accountant
Description Temporary, part-time salaried position based in Elgin, Ill., for a not-for-profit organization that provides Pension, Foundation and Insurance services for 6,000 members and clients nationwide. This position reports to the Director of Financial Operations. Brethren Benefit Trust is an agency of the Church of the Brethren, a Protestant denomination founded in 1708 that includes 1,100 congregations, five colleges and one university, one seminary, and more than 20 affiliated retirement communities.
Function To support the Director of Financial Operations with planned projects and assist the Finance Department staff with financial operations.
Scope of Responsibilities include establishing financial reports and budget in Great Plains Duties accounting software; preparing audit schedules; assisting with year-end and month-end closings; assisting with transition from in-house to oursourced pension record-keeping system; and, assisting with monthly reconciliation of investments, check register and bank accounts, and daily valuation of pension and foundation funds. Additional responsibilities include confirming trading activity of mutual fund shares for pension and foundation investments; providing backup for payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable; conducting internal audits and testing for accuracy and compliance within each program offered by BBT; and, other duties assigned by the Director of Financial Operations.

Knowledge/ Seeking candidates with an undergraduate degree in accounting, business or related Experience fields. A CPA is preferred. Requirements include–proficiency in Great Plains accounting software and Microsoft Office, demonstrated accounting competency related to non-profit/corporate financial transaction processing, as well as strong verbal and written communications skills. Current and active membership in the Church of the Brethren is preferred; current and active membership in a faith community is required.
