The Algonquin/LITH Food Pantry needs volunteers: drivers (with pickup trucks or van‑style vehicles) to pick up expired foods at both Algonquin Jewel Food Stores, AND volunteers who’ll receive these foods as they come in.  (Pick up is on Mon/Wed/Sat, 9-10:45am each week

The Algonquin/LITH Food Pantry is a recipient of the Jewel Foods food recovery program. As such, each month the pantry receives about 4000 lbs. of food that is at its expiration. This is a big process requiring many volunteers. Currently they are in need of more volunteers to pick up  and to receive these foods at the pantry. They pick up three days a week, and will be adding one more day. If anyone would like to help they need of drivers who have a either a pickup truck or a van‑type vehicle, and they also need volunteers who will receive the foods as they come in. They start at 9:00 and finish by 10:45.

They pick up at both Algonquin stores: on Randall Road and on Algonquin Road east of 31. The chairperson for this committee is Sal Maggio. He coordinates the schedule for the volunteers and also the procedures. Pickup days are Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.   They will be picking up at Wal-Mart on Randall in the near future one day a week.
