I love to eat fish, especially crab and shrimp. When I received some red flags on my blood work concerning my cholesterol levels those were the first things that came to my mind. As a result, I no longer order seafood with shrimp from the menu, yet I am not so picky as to refuse a bowl of noodle soup just because it has a few shrimp in it.
I love to read the Bible. Right now I am reading Leviticus 11. It says, “Of all the marine animals, these are ones you may use for food. You may eat anything from the water if it has both fins and scales, whether taken from salt water or from streams.” I love that! However, the next verse is different. “You must never eat animals from the sea or from rivers that do not have both fins and scales.” No crab meat at all? No octopus anymore? Well, some of you might think “Maybe not octopus, but I think eating crab meat is okay, so I will anyway.”
However, I realize that there are some who literally adhere to the command from the Scripture, and some who don’t. It all depends on how a person interprets the Bible. And there are many controversial issues in both politics and churches. Dealing with homosexuality is one of them. Please pray for me and for all our audience for this week so that all of us may truly listen to the voice of God. “In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, in all charity.”
Peace,
