In response to the call to the larger Church to be in community with native peoples around the globe, our Northern Illinois Annual Conference will begin a process of change and growth called “Acts of Repentance.” The goals for this process are for individuals and congregations to listen, learn, repent, and act. On Sept. 20 at Community UMC, 20 N. Center St., Naperville, we’ll begin the process by learning where Native Americans have been and continue to be present, including the challenges many Native Americans face each day.
We’ll hear from:
- Bishop Sally Dyck, resident Bishop of the NIC
- Rev. Glen Chebon Kernell, Executive Secretary of Native American, Indigenous Ministries, Justice & Relationships
- Panel of presenters from the American Indian Center, Midwest Soarring, and the UMC will conduct a short listening session
- Special keynote by Laura Grizzlypaws
Attendees are invited to register online. The event is from 8:30am-11:30am.
Please note that those attending are especially invited to stay for the Midwest Soarring powwow to be held on the grounds of the Naper Settlement (less than 1 mile from the event). Visit www.midwestsoarring.org.
