Naomi R. DeLap
Naomi R. (Whitlo) DeLap, 85, of Lake in the Hills, at rest November 8, 2014, following a short battle with cancer. Born June 2, 1929, in Renville County, North Dakota, to J. Frank and Rowena (Crooks) Whitlo, Naomi married Keith A. DeLap on November 21, 1947.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Frances (Whitlo) Wall. Survivors include Keith DeLap, her husband of nearly 67 years; her sons, Dennis (Joan) DeLap of Barrington and Timothy (Lucy) DeLap of East Dundee; her granddaughter Dr. Kelly (Chris) Sculles and two great grandchildren, Emma and Henry Sculles of Oak Park; her sister Margaret “Elaine” (Whitlo) Shields of Omaha, Nebraska, and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Naomi and Keith moved from North Dakota to Milwaukee in 1953, and then to the Chicago area in 1962, residing first in Melrose Park then Broadview where they resided for many years. During this time, Naomi worked as a comptroller at Sears. In the mid-1970s, Naomi studied Nursing at Triton College and became a Registered Nurse. After moving to Lake in the Hills in 1979, Naomi worked at Northern Illinois Medical Center (now Centegra Hospital – McHenry) until her retirement.
Naomi was a very active member of Christ United Methodist Church, as well as frequent volunteer with the Algonquin – Lake in the Hills Food Pantry.
A Memorial Celebration of her life will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, November 22 at Christ United Methodist Church, 9009 W. Algonquin Road, Algonquin, IL 60102. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to the charity of your choice or the Algonquin – Lake in the Hills Food Bank, 600 E. Oak St., Lake in the Hills, IL 60156, would be greatly appreciated by Naomi’s family.
